It’s funny how sometimes you can lose your mojo. One day its there, the next it’s vamooshed quicker than dosh in your pocket at a craft show. And then, all of a sudden it pops back at ya, quicker than you can find that 12 x 12″ paper you were looking for. This is why we all need lovely local craft shops which do a fab job at inspiring us all and I wish more crafters out there really appreciated their little indie shopkeepers who work like eejits most of the time to come up with new ideas and find new products to keep inspiring their customers. OK, so as a shopkeeper I am slightly biased, I will admit, but it’s so true and I get very cross at the big chains who muscle in on our patches without so much as a thought about who they put out of business. I know from feedback we get that there is this broad perception amongst most of us that we think the big high street chains offer better value for money and better choice. In truth, if you peel away the layers of marketing and point of sale mastery (buy me, buy me now, i’m cheap, i’m cheap) it’s all a load of billy bullpoo. True, they do have loss-leaders like the supermarkets loaf of bread or milk but its nearly always the dog ends of stock thats been stuck at the back of some warehouse somewhere that no-one wanted. Aha but leave it long enough and the fools will forget they saw that 2 years ago and will think it’s a steal! hence we buy rubbish we dont need and never use. Now, we all buy stuff we never use but if it’s strokeable and lovely then none of us mind, but there’s nothing worse than buying something you thought was going to revolutionise your craftlife and it doesnt. Disappointment doesnt cover it, do it. And, my chums, we’ve all bloody been there! Anyway, i digress, what I really was going on about was how you can get inspiration from anywhere and a good old show or your local craft shop is the best possible place you can go. So get in and support your local Mr or Mrs Ben – in this recession they need all your support, believe me! And also, if they’re any good, now’s the time you can probably pick up a true bargain and loads of great ideas and moneysaving tips as they treasure your business rather than just rifling your pockets for every last grubby penny they can squeeze out of ya.
Anyway, I’ve been a bit more inspired this week so here’s a couple of offerings which I made from my templates & cutting sheets…..
always a stashaholic.
Yes, hate to break it to you folks but it is true. Have just got back from the Harrogate show, which I have to say was slightly disappointing, but I think that’s mainly because craft is a bit boring at the mo anyway and not a reflection on the stands which were there (well, almost but say no more on that score!). Having said this, I was on a bit of a working mission and made sure I had no bag, no purse and definitely no cards with me. Good job cos the money I did take with me, and it wasnt much to be fair, burned a bloody great versuvius type hole in my pocket and had gone before you can say Sugar Nellie. Talking of which I did manage to get one Sugar Nellie & one Magnolia stamp which was my total shopping list as I’ve resisted them for sooooo long. Alas, I could resist no more and it was a bloody good job I didnt take my card I can tell you or Gordon Brown would be on the phone right now thanking me for stimulating the UK economy! I think however one lucky lady has probably already had a phone call from Barack Obama as I heard a little rumour that she told someone (she said he said she said) that she’d spent 600 quid – all I can say is WAY TO GO GIRL!!! Likin’ your stylee!! Hope it wasn’t all on decoupage and 3D foam, how disappointing that would be. Still, whatever floats your boat!
Anyway, the highlight of my show-day (at the copa, copa-cabana) was spending the day with my good chumlee & sparring pardner Jozza and meeting her mates Ruth and Kath who were sooo lovely I wondered what they’re doing fraternising with the Jozzmeister! (Only joking J, u know I wub u, spax, u r an original ! xx ) Anyway, it just reminded me how, on the whole, crafters are a really friendly bunch, specially if they’re fed on cake and have enough stash spends for the day. Remove either of these 2 catalysts and they generally turn into something resembling the scream painting.
Another goodie for the day was muscling in (did I say muscling, I meant wobbling) in on a photie with the girlies and KW who IS as mad as a hatter and made me & J laugh our little pancake paps off. She threatened to blog the photie so I think we will all download it and photoshop ourselves out so if I come across it I might post it here.
Well, I’m off to play with the Patti Picklicious CD which we are now stocking on the website and in the shop – it was noticable that the Waahboy didnt ask me how much I spent although I think he’s learned his lesson on that one now. Unfortunately I discovered that leaving him on his own on a Sunday without a job list wasn’t a good idea as he seems to have now discovered Formula 1 and thinks he will be watching it every week. Yeah, in your dreams matey-boy! x
Well apparently someone I know is complaining I dont blog enough so I’m trying harder! Anyway, Just a week ago we launched my new Stackies range and they have been sooo popular and I’ve been busy making samples all week so thought I would share. Apologies as some of these cards aren’t quite finished yet but I love the stax so much I wanted to share…
I’d also like to say my good chumlie Jozza has made a faberooni card for a DCM challenge this week which you can see here… Nice work as usual J! x
Well, I have to say it’s been a bit of a cr*ppy week! Started off on Monday and if I’m being positive I would say it got slightly better from then on cos it couldn’t really have been any worse in all honesty. Of course, I’m being a right chunky drama queen as usual, as in the general scheme of things what I was mad at really didn’t matter when there are people dying or starving or in bad health around the world. But you know how it is, we all have a bad day now and then so I’m allowed.
Anyway, ending the week on a good note I restarted my classes today with all my ol’faithful peeps and a couple of newbies too and a damn fine day it was too! I have to admit, having not taught a class since last August I was feelin the ol’ presh slightly this week and as anyone who regularly came to my classes before knows, I do have a tendency to be a last minute Annie when it comes to class prep and actually making the projects, but I guess I must be one of those peeps who work better under pressure!! Or thats my excuse anyway! 😀 Anyway at this point I do have to publicly apologise at the long suffering DH for screaming at him on Wednesday just cos he hadn’t been psychic enough to do what I expected him to do without telling him or explaining it properly – after all he is a mere man and how was he to know I wanted it that way. OMG and I almost forgot about the stress of Tuesday night and my episode of B&Q’s revolving door after the MDF we had cut wouldnt fit in the car (OK, so he told me all the way to the checkout that it wouldnt fit but I chose to forget that the car hatch gets smaller at the top – if it had gone in through the opening it WOULD have fit, just like I said it would, stoopid!). So after going in and out of the store about 10 million times and returning said MDF 5 mins after I’d bought it and then going back in and out a further 10 times again just trying to get out of the bloody place, a kind friend picked it up in his van next day. Is it just us that has a pilaver wherever we go and whatever we do or is this normal? I often wonder if it’s some kind of syndrome or payback for being naughty, eating too many French Fancies or maybe swearing too much???
Anyway, so back to the classes (soz, got sidetracked, another fault apparently, which was brought to my attention this week; apparently I start a 2nd sentence before I finish the first confusing whomever I’m talking to; according to my book, this is an Aquarian thing, we’re already thinking about the next thing while we’re still doing the first so I just can’t help it OK!)
Anyway, so back to the class! hahah finally…I think we all enjoyed it today despite a little spell of craziness in the morning where it felt like being in the queue at Burger King, but hopefully a bit calmer next time as i’ve extended the class times. We did two fab folding techniques which kept everyone quiet and busy, except for the usual crazy rowdies on the last class of the day (You know who you are you lot!), and everyone left full of biccies, inspiration and a full bladder.
So thanks Laydees, I had a lovely day seeing you all again and lets hope we’ve all inspired each other back to crafting more again! I’m looking forwards to tomorrow now and the next bunch of crazy crafters! Waheey! Anyway, here are the cards we’ve made today…you can see all the other fabbie versions the girls made on the website gallery here.
Phewee what a week! Lots of very late nights and early mornings this week, mainly due to finishing designing my new range of flower stackies which I have to say I am totally in love with. Don’t be surprised if EVERYTHING over the next couple of months is coated in flowers head to toe! I’m soo bushed tonight I couldnt even finish my delish chinese and turned down the Waaah-Boy’s offer of choccie from the shop would you believe! Anyway, as if being awake at 5am on a Saturday when all you wanna do is have a snooze till 8 (luxury) isn’t bad enough, I do actually have to get up at 5 tomorrow for a show at Don Valley stadium in Sheffield. Yaaawn, it’s making me tired just thinking about it! So if you’re in Sheffield, be there or be square!! Right I’m off anyway, my matchsticks have just broken and are piercing me eyes! Laters! xxxxxx
